Sam and Max: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak Walkthrough

A walkthrough is provided for the second episode of Sam and Max Season 3: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak and when compared to other episodes, it is pretty unique thanks to the mechanic that's used to switch between areas.

    Sam and Max: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak Walkthrough - Escaping Kringle During the Intro

    Sam and Max being attacked by Kringle during The Tomb of Sammun-Mak's opening.   After the opening cinematic, Sam and Max will need to try and escape from Kringle once inside the reel. This is easily done. Left click the icon of Max at the top right of the screen and select the ventriloquist power. Use it on the weird squid statue by left clicking on it, which can be found by rotating the camera using the directional keys. After that, Sam and Max will try to read some eqyptian writing. Choose any dialog option.

    You'll then be tasked with choosing another reel. Pick reel 1, 'The Sphunx Challenge' and then click on the red button.

    Sam and Max: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak Walkthrough - Grabbing the Can O' Nuts

    A look at Little Artic Circle in Sam and Max: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak.   Following the title screen, Sam and Max will be viewing a show hosted by a character called Monsieur Papierwaite. He'll task them with passing through the mouth of the Sphunx. However, as is to be expected, there are obstacles and puzzles that must be solved first.

    To begin with, talk to the Mole Woman away from the stage. You'll see she's reading a newspaper with hieroglyphyics. Now go and talk to Kringle. Choose the cookies, then Sphunx Challenge dialog topics, followed by 'stumped eh?' Click on his bag then after he falls down and examine the milk carton. Go onto the stage then and click on the can o' nuts.

    Sam and Max: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak Walkthrough - Learning the Hieroglyphics

    The elves will flee with the can o' nuts and the Mole Woman will also leave. So, click on the hieroglyphs just above the Sphunx mouth and head to where the Mole Woman was and pick up the paper. Head out after that. This'll bring you to Little Artic Circle. Talk to the elves here. Keep going through the dialog topics until a toy idea is mentioned. They'll ask you to tell them your idea and if it's liked, they'll give you the can o' nuts. However, they won't like any of your suggestions at the moment.

    So, ignore them for now and go into the house to the left of them. You'll meet the Mole Woman again, so talk to her and ask about the Sphunx Inscription after exhausting the other options. Also, make sure you use the newspaper on her and get her to read some lines. You'll now know how to get past the section that you got killed on during reel 3, The Big Standoff.

    Sam and Max: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak Walkthrough - Gaining Access to the Tomb in Reel 2

    After learning the hieroglyphs, use Max's Astral Projection power and go back to reel 3. Choose the dialog option beginning with 'Fut'. You'll then leave the area and be aboard a train. You'll find you've been robbed. So, leave the room and go left down the hall to pick up the drinking glass. Click on Kringle's door where the glass was. Choose room service and place the cookies on the tray, then use Max's can o' nuts power. After that, it turns out you need milk. Before seeing to that though, go to the opposite end of the hall and exit to the yellow car. Knock on Amelia's door here. Click on the music box.

    Now then, switch the current reel with reel 2, 'The Train to Eqypt'. After the dialog and cutscene, click on the trunk and choose the valkyrie option, then use Max's can o' nuts power to hide from the conductor.

    Sam and Max: Walkthrough for The Tomb of Sammun-Mak - Acquiring the Bust of Sammun-Mak

    Walkthrough for The Tomb of Sammun-Mak: The start of the tomb area in reel 2.   You'll find you're in the tomb now, where Sam and Max were being shot at during the game's opening. So, move down the stairs and towards the chest in the middle of the room. A cutscene will play where a Mole Man casts a protection spell on the chest. Move towards the dummy that's down the stairs then and a snake will take it.

    Your first goal here should be to move north and right. Click the first sconce you come across (snake-head lever), then go up the stairs where the second sconce is. Go through the conversation options with Jurgen, then click the sconce by him. Go up the stairs and take the Bust of Sammun-Mak from between the two guardians.

    You'll have freed Jurgen, but you'll be in a pickle now. Talk to the guardians. Choose the straight talk option to progress, then riddle. The cucumber option is the riddle answer.

    Sam and Max: Walkthrough for The Tomb of Sammun-Mak - Acquiring the Ventriloquist Power

    After that, enter the door to the left. Approach the two doorways and pick any entrance. You won't die. Now go to the left. Talk to the Mole Girl and when the dialog finishes, move into her room. When the snake moves to attack, use Max's can o' nuts power. You'll gain the ventriloquist power then. However, Max gets turned into a cow. To turn him back, just talk to the Mole Girl. Now talk to the Mole Man in the room and choose the daughter option. Exit the conversation and use Max's dummy power on the Mole Girl. Choose the love option.

    You'll get cursed then.

    Sam and Max: Walkthrough for The Tomb of Sammun-Mak - Getting the 3 blocks

    Walkthrough for the Tomb of Sammun-Mak: Baby Amelia in the tomb.   Now, head through the doors by the Mole Man. Take the door to the left and then take the one to the right at the opposite end of the path. Move northwards and you'll run into another Mole Man and also Baby Amelia. Examine the three blocks near the Mole Man, then talk to Baby Amelia. However, if the curse has worn off, you'll need to go back and get cursed again. Once she's been thrown towards the sarcophagus, use the ventriloquist power on it and then take the three blocks. Hurry out of the room then and go back to reel 3.

    Sam and Max: Walkthrough for The Tomb of Sammun-Mak - Figuring Out the Toy Idea for Reel 1

    You should arrive back at Amelia's room on the train. Go to the back of the carriage and search the baggage. Next, go back down the hall and click on the elves' door. Go through the topics, saving special project until last and asking to see Slushie. Head to the blue car then after the conversation.

    Search the baggage here and click on the sarcophagus and exit to the green car at the opposite end of the passage. Search the baggage here. Click on Jurgen's door. Click the steamer trunk. You'll be thrown out of the room then, so go to the room that Jurgen enters. Exhaust the dialogs with the Moles in the room. When you inquire about the daughter when talking to the male, choose 'on us'.

    Now, go and tell Slushie you have a kid to test his project. Click on Amelia's door. You'll find out the toy idea then for reel 1 in order to get the can o' nuts.

    Sam and Max: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak Guide - Completing Reel 1

    The Tomb of Sammun-Mak Walkthrough: The Mole Woman in reel 1.   Head back to reel 1. If you've followed the walkthrough exactly, then you should be in the Mole Woman's house. Talk to her if you want in case there are topics you didn't exhaust. Otherwise, head outside and talk to the elves. Select the toy concept topic, then toy biplane. After that, you'll want to head back to Monsieur Papierwaite and the Challenge of the Sphunx awaits.

    Once there, walk onto the stage and up to the Sphunx. Use the cookies on the nostrils. Choose the 'fut' option and then use the can o' nuts power. Reel 1 will now be complete. Head back to reel 3.

    Sam and Max: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak Guide - Completing Reel 3

    Before leaving the current car, ask the elves if you can inspect their compartment. Head to the car where Jurgen and the Moles are. You'll see a scene with the Mole Girl and Jurgen where she gives him a letter. Head into Jurgen's room and grab the letter. Go into the mole's compartment and give the letter to the male one. Use the glass on Max when he gets cursed. Next, use the ventriloquist power on the steamer trunk and then inspect it. Examine the parchment and leave the compartment.

    Use the can o' nuts next as you hear the Mole Girl preparing to leave. When she stutters, use the ventriloquist dummy on her and select the vampire option, then sarcophagus. Now go and tell Slushie that Kringle wants him. Head back to the car where the Moles are and renew the curse that pushes the opposite sex away if you need to. Then enter Jurgen's compartment and inspect the trunk.

    Go to where Kringle's compartment is and leave the glass on the tray. Then knock on the door and select room service. Then use the can o' nuts power. Inspect the trunk and after the cutscenes end, simply select any dialog option when talking to Amelia. Reel 3 will be complete.

    Sam and Max: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak Guide - Completing Reel 2

    Go to reel 2 and then click on the brochures in the room where Amelia was. Select the Stuttgart option. He'll curse you, so now go to the area where the scimitar is. Once there, throw the Bust of Sammun-Mak into one of the entryways. Head back to the previous screen. Where the guardians are, there are two indentations on either side of where you got the bust from. Use both halfs of the bust on them, then click the trip plate where you got the bust from.

    Click the marquee to the right (where the glowing panels are), then use the blocks on it. Reel 3 will be complete.

    Sam and Max: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak Guide - Episode Finale

    Tomb of Sammun-Mak walkthrough: The episode finale.   You only have reel 4 left now. First, you'll need to answer some questions and the correct answers are: can o' nuts, protection spell and the baby option. After that, you'll need to get Sam and Max out of trouble.

    When prompted, stall for time. Next, use the paper on the torch by Sam. Use that on the moon counterweight and then throw the cookies into the Sphunx's nostrils. Following that, click on the toybox and choose the trick option. Use the ventriloquist power on Monsieur Paperwaite then to complete the episode. Enjoy the ending.
