Guide to New Super Mario Bros Wii Star Coins: World 1 & 2
Page content

Ready to join the Mario Bros on another adventure? Trying to unlock World 9? This guide to the first couple worlds in New Super Mario Bros will help you begin your journey.

As you collect your star coins, remember that if you do not complete the level, or you die, you will lose credit for the coins you collected. Once you collect everything in World 1, you will unlock World 9, Level 1.

World 1-1

Coin 1: You can find the first star coin just after the half way point of the level. A propeller suit is needed to get to the star coin, as it will be located just above a ? block. The suit can be found in a block before the coin.

Coin 2: At the piece of spinning land, you will find the second coin. Wait for it to come around and jump up to get the coin.

Coin 3: When you reach the part of the level where there are platforms above you, you are close. Jump onto the platforms and run to the end. The last coin for the level will be located on the platform.

World 1-2

Coin 1: You will find this coin soon after starting the level, toward the very top. Use a wall jump while on the purple platform tilted to the left to get this coin.

Coin 2: This coin is slightly more difficult to find and get to. Roughly located at the half way point of the level, you need to use the tilting platform to get to get up to another platform with a pipe. Hitting the brick on the following screen will show a P button. Hit the button and jump up the platform, careful to either avoid or kill the enemies along the way, and you will see the star coin.

Coin 3: There is a green pipe hidden by some bricks. You will want to go down this pipe and hit the “pow” button so the star coin will drop and you can reach it.

World 1-3

Coin 1: Toward the beginning of the level, you will be able to see it in the air. It is too high up for Mario (or another player) to get on his own, so you will need a Yoshi or Propeller to get it. If using a Yoshi, you will have to jump with him and then spin jump off of him to be able to reach it.

Coin 2: You will need a Yoshi or Propeller to get this coin, too. Right after the check point, you will see three green pipes (of various heights.) Walk through the wall to the right of these pipes–it’s a fake. Go down the yellow pipe. You will see the star coin. Jumping off Yoshi will make this coin easier to get.

Coin 3: You will need a Yoshi or Propeller to get this coin, too. This coin isn’t hidden anywhere special, but is a little high up. You should probably jump off of Yoshi to help get it.

World 1-M

Coin 1: Look for the swinging platform that has a ? box above it. Jump on to brown platform after swinging left on the first platform. You can now jump up and grab the star coin.

Coin 2: Look for the set of three swinging platforms. Once you are on the top one, jump to the short blue platform on the right. From here, jump up and then wall jump from the right to reveal the hidden path to the star coin.

Coin 3: After the checkpoint for the level, there is another swinging platform, with a ? box underneath it. Swing on the platform to the right, then jump up and wall jump between the two walls. You will be able to see and reach the star coin.

World 1-4

Coin 1: Shortly after the half way point for the level, there will be a coin against the wall. Swim until you have passed the pipes, and then swim toward the top of the water, avoiding the enemies along the way to jump up and grab the coin.

Coin 2: For this coin, you will need either a Penguin Suit or an Ice Flower. It is pretty difficult because the coin is located between two red pipes, and because they are each spraying water down, you can’t swim up between them to grab the coin. To get it, you’ll need to approach it from the top. Swim back a bit, and freeze the Urchin enemy swimming near the top. You’ll need to move quickly and jump on it. Jump off of it onto the land above the red pipes. While you won’t be able to see the character, you will be able to drop down and grab the coin.

Coin 3: This coin is slightly difficult just like the one before it. You will need either a penguin suite or an ice flower to get this one, too. Since this coin is located just past the second one, but this time near a red pipe that is shooting water upward, you need to freeze the urchin swimming around it, allowing it to fall and land on the red pipe to stop the flow of water.

World 1-5

Coin 1: Look for three rectangles that each have two blocks running around them. Get on one of the blocks around the middle platform. When the block reaches the top, jump, so you can reach the platform above it. Break the two bricks on the right side.Go up the beanstalk to find the coin.

Coin 2: Ride the Green spinning block until you can get the coin, located in the lower right corner. Jump off the block to the platform to avoid death.

Coin 3: If you don’t have a propeller, you will have to jump off of a Koopa to reach this coin, as it is located above three red spinning blocks.

World 1-6

Coin 1: Near the beginning of the level, there will be several spinning parts of ground. The star coin is above one of them. You will either need a propeller suit or to bounce off a Koopa shell to get it.

Coin 2: You will see the second star coin just a bit after the first, near a green pipe. Back up to the three bricks and bust them. One will become a vine. Climb up the vine. Take the green pipe down. This will put you on a platform that will make it easier to grab the coin.

Coin 3: After the half way point of this level, look for the spinning piece of land. Take a ride to the left, jumping off underneath the checkpoint. There is a fake wall here you can walk through to find a green pipe. Take the green pipe down where you will see the star coin. This one may be difficult to nail timing wise because of how fast the land spins.

World 1-C

bowser

Coin 1: This one is located near the start of the level. All you need to do is jump off the gear when it is closest to the coin.

Coin 2: After the checkpoint, a coin will be under the bricks. The enemy will get rid of the bricks, so you can drop down and grab the coin.

Coin 3: Look for the green pipe past the lava. Ride the last gear down until you can safely land on the pipe and take it down. On the following screen, hit the P button. Run on the bricks, using a wall jump to grab the coin. Leave through the yellow pipe.

World 2-1

world2

Coin 1: You will see the coin under a platform. Ride the sand to the left. Go down the gap and ride the sand up to grab the coin.

Coin 2: After the half way point, you’ll see the coin underneath a plant. Step off the platform above, tilt the control stick left to slide down the wall and grab the coin.

Coin 3: You will need a propeller to get this coin, because the only way to get it is to jump down and then use the suit as soon as you touch the coin.

World 2-2

Coin 1: This one is complex, but it isn’t difficult. Before you get to the check point, you will see a quicksand area. Ride the sand down. Hit the P button. Drop down through all the blue coins. Skip the first pipe, exiting with the pipe to the left. Hit the yellow P button and then go up the platforms to get to the coin. If you’re not “big” you won’t be able to jump high enough to get it. Leave through the vertical green pipe.

Coin 2: Look for a moving platform. There are four bricks above and to the right of it. The brick on the left, from the bottom reveals a vine. At the top of the vine, the platform you get on will start moving. You will need to grab the “Pow” but hold on to it until you are right under the coin, as this will cause it to fall down to you.

Coin 3: You will have be a Mini Mario before you will be able to get this one. Near the end of the level you will see a pipe covered by two barrels. Move to the two barrels, take the pipe. Run across the water, use a wall jump to grab the coin.

World 2-3

Coin 1: Look for three structures of yellow blocks. The coin will be at the bottom of the last one. It is hidden by darkness. There are fire creatures in your way, so if you have trouble, use a Mini Mario.

Coin 2: After you meet the Fire Brother, drop down and run to the left to find the second star coin hidden in the dark.

Coin 3: Toward the end of the level, you will see some plants hanging from the top of the screen. There is a platform above these plants for you to run across to get the coin. Get on the platform toward the top of the slope.

World 2-M

Coin 1: When you’re climbing the right side, you’ll see the star coin on the left. Drop down the left side to get the coin.

Coin 2: Run straight to the right after the checkpoint. You will find a coin through the hidden wall.

Coin 3: Right near the end, ride the grate until you hit the coin, avoiding the spikes by not climbing, and go back down when you hit the coin.

Coin 1: Look for the pipe made of stones. Climb to the top of it. Jump. This will show hidden blocks, containing a vine. Climb the vine, hit the blocks on the following screen and then climb those vines to reach the coin.

Coin 2: You will need a Propeller suit for this coin. Take the green pipe down, after the half way point. The star coin will be down low where it will be difficult to reach. The propeller suit will be what you need to get back up to the platform. Timing may be difficult.

Coin 3: The star coin here will be hard to get. It is at the end of the level, and you will need a Propeller suit to get back up to the platform. Jump from the far lower left as far as you can.

World 2-5

Coin 1: The star coin is located behind a cloud. You can either kick the enemy out of his cloud and use that, or jump off of Yoshi, or use a propeller suit to get it.

Coin 2: You will see a plant between two yellow blocks. When you see the yellow wall to the right of it, you will be able to go through this wall, as it is a fake. Keep Yoshi with you when you go through the wall. Go to the right, jump on the square and jump off of Yoshi to get the coin.

Coin 3: You have to use the cloud to get this coin. Jump on the enemy’s head, and when you are close to the pyramid, ride the cloud up to the right.

World 2-6

Coin 1: Ride the spinning pink block and jump to grab the coin.

Coin 2: Look for a bunch of bricks dancing around a green pipe. Go down the green pipe and use the propeller block to get to the star coin.

Coin 3: You will also get this coin while riding the spinning pink block. Wait until the block is at its highest point and jump to get the coin.

World 2-C

supermariowiilevel2

Coin 1: The middle path is the one to take to get to the star coin. When you come back, take the top one to move through the rest of the level.

Coin 2: The star coin will be in between two pillars. Break the bricks and wall jump to get it.

Coin 3: Hit the blue P button, and follow the coins directly to the star coin.
