Introduction to Virtual Villagers 4 Walkthrough: The Tree of Life

Virtual Villagers 4: The Tree of Life serves as the fourth game in Last Day of Work’s successful Virtual Villagers series. Though the newest game is easier than its predecessors, it offers players the ability to customize the first five members of the tribe. Players can choose to start a tribe full of children if they wish to do so. The updated graphics are pleasing to the eye, and the achievement system is quite extensive and rewarding.

As is true of all the Virtual Villager games, VV4 has sixteen puzzles that must be solved by the villagers. Players use their villagers to solve problems through a combination of logic and trial and error. Many of the puzzle solutions occur via the natural progression of the game, but as with any game, sometimes we all need a little help.

Virtual Villagers 4 Walkthrough – Puzzle 1

Puzzle1 - Virtual Villagers 4

The tutorial will actually walk you through the first puzzle, but if you skip the tutorial, simply do the following:

  1. Make sure that the bonfire is lit. Do this by dragging an adult onto the pile of sticks. Near that pile is a patch of kindling. After the adult has placed wood on the bonfire, put the kindling on next by dropping the adult onto that pile. Last but not least, drop the adult on the bonfire in order to light it.
  2. Drop an adult on the giant pile of fish bones on the beach. The villager will do the rest which consists of taking the bone to the fire and then putting the resulting knives in the lab.

You can stack six knives total, and the knives are used to help harvest larger amounts of berries, pulpy vines, the sticky plants, and to treat the rotten branch on the Tree of Life.

Virtual Villagers 4 Walkthrough – Puzzle 2

Keep in mind that these puzzles do not have to be done in order. I actually completed Puzzles 3 and 4 before I did 2. This puzzle requires an adult villager who is an Adept Builder and an Adept Scientist. You can easily get an Adept Builder by doing the first part of this puzzle:

  1. Drop an adult high up on the screen where the debris has gathered. This is the fastest way to train a builder, by the way, so feel free to get multiple adults on the project.
  2. Once the debris is removed, you will notice that the stream does not continue all the way down to the bottom. It is falling through a hole.
  3. Look at where the water used to fall and notice that the rock is a match for that hole.
  4. Drop your adult who is an Adept Builder and Adept Scientist onto that rock. He or she will do the rest.

Virtual Villagers 4 Walkthrough – Puzzle 3 and 4

Puzzle4

These two puzzles can be solved fairly quickly and done together.

  1. Make sure you have a lit fire. Follow the steps found in Puzzle 1, Step 1 if you do not know how to get your fire lit.
  2. Get an adult and drop the villager on the pile of black rocks next to the left of the base of the bridge to the lab. If you bring the adult near the pile, you will get the message that the adult sees a “Pile of Blackened Rocks.” The adult will place the rock in the fire automatically.
  3. While you are waiting for the rock to turn red, take an adult and drop the villager on any one of the pile of bronze bowls by the water sources. The ones on top will be for fresh water. The ones on bottom are for salt water. The salt water one will be faster and needed for Puzzle 4.
  4. Get one of the kids to go ahead and pick the “soapy” herb. These are the white, daisy-like flowers underneath the lab. Go ahead and get 3 of them placed on the table.
  5. When the rock is red, place an adult on it. The villager will automatically take it to the pot and solve Puzzle 3.
  6. Drop that adult on the herb table filled with 3 soapy herbs.
  7. Then drop the adult on the pot again.

Virtual Villagers 4 Walkthrough – Puzzle 5

You need to have finished Puzzle 1 and Puzzle 2 in order to do this one, and Puzzle 2 needs to have been solved for several hours before the sticky plant can be cut.

Puzzle5

  1. Wait until the reddish-brown plant to the left of the bottom of the bridge turns green.
  2. Make sure you have knives made (Puzzle 1), and drop an adult on the plant.
  3. Wait until the green cloud completely covers the adult.
  4. Grab the adult and slowly move the villager across the screen all the way up to the tree. Make sure the butterflies are following.
  5. Drop the villager on the tree where you get the message that there is rough, dry bark.

The villager will complete the quest by rubbing the sticky stuff onto the tree, and the butterflies will stay.

Virtual Villagers 4 Walkthrough – Puzzle 6

You must have completed Puzzle 2 and open up the stream. Make sure you keep it free of debris.

  1. Wait for a rain.
  2. On the base of the cliff between the stairs and the salt water pans, there are two indentations that fill up with water when it rains. There should be frogs hopping there.
  3. Drop three or four adults on the temporary ponds. After five or six frogs have been rescued, the puzzle will be solved.

Virtual Villagers 4 Walkthrough – Puzzle 7

Puzzle7

In order to solve this Virtual Villager puzzle, you need to have at least one knife. See the solution to Puzzle 1 in order to make some if needed. You will also need to have Level 2 Science which is 8,000 tech points, and that will result in the Clothing Hut being available. Build one near your wood pile to make the work go faster.

  1. Drop a blackened rock in the bonfire.
  2. Fill the pot with salt water using one adult.
  3. Drop a different adult on the pulpy vines that are growing between the wood pile and the bridge. You might have to drop them a few times to get the right place. The adult will automatically fill the herb table with three pulpy vines if you have knives made.
  4. Drop an adult on the heated red rock.
  5. As soon as the water boils, drop in the pulpy vines from the table.
  6. Drop an adult on the pot as soon as it is done cooking. The adult will carry the contents of the pot to a flat rock on the eastern edge of the island. A yellow puddle will rest there.
  7. Drop multiple adults on the puddle until they are done making cloth.

Each attempt will make three bolts of cloth that will be stored in the clothing hut. The hut can hold up to six bolts total. You can use the hut to change clothing for your villagers at 5,000 tech each time.
