About Sims 3 Traits

The Sims 3 traits are used as a personality guide for each individual Sim. Five chosen traits are available for each Sim in the Create-A-Sim mode. They can also be inherited through genetics for babies (two traits) and if a toddler grows up well, they can chose a third trait. When a Sim becomes a teen they choose their fourth trait, and as a young adult they can choose their last trait.

Sims that do not like their traits are able to change them with the “Midlife Crisis” lifetime reward.

The Sims 3 Main Traits

The Sims 3 traits offered from the base game include:

Absent-Minded – this trait makes the Sim sometimes forget what they are doing.

Ambitious – this trait gives the Sim a drive for success and get better promotions at work.

Angler – this trait gives the Sim the ability to be amazing at fishing. They learn the Fishing skill faster, catch fish faster and enjoy fishing more than regular Sims.

Artistic – this trait gives the Sim the ability to be better at painting. It also helps for authors and musicians with writing and playing the guitar.

Athletic – this trait gives the Sim a boost in their athletic skill, get fatigued slower and raise their athletic skill faster. These Sims do well in Pro Sports and Military.

Bookworm – this trait gives the Sim the love for books. They read faster, write and do homework faster.

Brave – this trait gives the Sim the ability to fight fires and catch burglars better.

Can’t Stand Art – this trait gives the Sim a love for hating art. This is only good if you want your Sim’s home to be sparsely decorated.

Charismatic – this trait gives the Sim a better ability to make friends. Politicians should have this trait as they need many. Sims with this trait learn the Charisma skill faster.

Childish – this trait gives the Sim a childish look on life. They love toys, fishing in pools and love having kids around.

Clumsy – this trait makes the Sim clumsy. They trip, drop things and can break things by simply interacting with them.

Commitment Issues – this trait gives the Sim commitment issues. Sims often go for the Gold Digger or Heartbreaker lifetime wish when they have this trait. They find it hard to be in romantic relationships and often change careers.

Computer Whiz – this trait gives the Sim a love for computers. They are able to hack and make money by stealing over the internet too.

Couch Potato – this trait gives the Sim a double moodlet for sitting in comfortable places.

Coward – this trait makes Sims faint at the sight of ghosts and burglars and even fires sometimes.

Daredevil – this trait gives the Sim the ability to do daring things like put out fires and give an adrenaline rush moodlet.

Dislikes Children – this trait gives the Sim a dislike of children when they are around the Sim, and a negative moodlet when children are nearby.

Easily Impressed – this trait gives the Sim a moodlet boost when Sims boast to them.

Evil – this trait gives the Sim evil characteristics and if your Sim makes it to the top of the Criminal career, they will glow red.

Excitable – this Sims 3 traits gives the Sim more positive moodlets while playing the game.

Main Traits Continued

Family-Oriented – this trait gives the Sim a better ability to raise children and they can teach the kids to potty train and talk quicker than regular Sims.

Flirty – this trait gives the Sim the ability to Flirt and start relationships sooner.

Friendly – this trait gives the Sim a better ability to make friends and socialize in a friendly way.

Frugal – this trait gives the Sim a need for scoring deals. They can look in the newspaper for coupons and get a positive moodlet when saving money.

Genius – this trait gives the Sim a better Chess ability and are able to gain the Logic skill faster than regular Sims.

Good – this trait gives the Sim a kind heart. They are nicer and don’t even get the option to be mean to other Sims. These Sims can donate to charity and comfort other Sims.

Good Sense of Humor – this trait gives the Sim a good sense of humor. Their jokes are almost always a hit and generally helps boost relationships.

Great Kisser – this trait gives the Sim the ability to kiss great. Kissing gives a bigger effect on a relationship.

Green Thumb – this trait gives the Sim a big boost in gardening. It also unlocks the revive dead plant ability, including death flower plants (for one additional use only).

Grumpy – this trait gives the Sim a grumpy personality. No real bonuses for this trait.

Handy – this trait makes the Sim more handy. They can upgrade objects safer and resist breaking in the future.

Hates the Outdoors – this trait gives the Sim a hatred for being outdoors. It is good for Sims that like staying indoors because they will no longer get a Stir Crazy negative moodlet.

Heavy Sleeper – this trait gives the Sim the ability to listen to music and sleep at the same time! They can also sleep at work.

Hopeless Romantic – this trait gives the Sim a better ability for being romantic with their loved one(s).

Hot-Headed – this trait gives the Sim the ability to get really mad rather easily. No real bonus except seeing mad Sims.

Hydrophobic – this trait gives the Sim a fear of swimming.

Inappropriate – this trait gives the Sim abilities to do inappropriate things like bathe in a sink or sleep in a tuxedo for bedtime. Expect negative reactions from other Sims.

Insane – this trait allows the Sim to fish in pools, talk to themselves and be plain crazy.

Kleptomaniac – this trait gives the Sim the ability to steal from others at night. They can be arrested for stealing, but if they aren’t caught they can sell what they stole for cash.

Light Sleeper – this trait makes Sims more prone to wake up from things. Can be good if a burglar comes, but an alarm should work fine for preventing that too.

Loner – this trait gives the Sim a +15 moodlet for being alone which is great for solo careers like as an author or painter.

Loser – this trait gives the Sim negative effects and often fail at everything they try. Makes for some embarrassingly sad Sims.

Loves the Outdoors – this trait gives the Sim a +20 moodlet for being outdoors. Great for fishers, gardeners and musicians that play outside for tips.

Lucky – this trait gives the Sim a likelier ability to win at Chess, get raises and sometimes even wake up feeling lucky.

Mean Spirited – this trait gives the Sim the ability to make enemies faster and they are better at fights.

Mooch – this trait gives the Sim the ability to mooch money from other Sims.

Natural Cook – this trait gives the Sim a boost to the quality of food the Sim prepares, won’t burn down the kitchen and never burns food.

Neat – this trait gives the Sim the ability to have fun when cleaning.

Neurotic – this trait gives the Sim a neurotic feeling and they often like to check the stove to make sure it is off. Sims like this can be annoying, but can pick up Lifetime Happiness points quickly.

Main Traits Continued

Never Nude – this trait gives the Sim the inability to shed their clothes. They will not be nude!

No Sense of Humor – this trait gives the Sim no sense of humor. They like to randomly give trivia and bore other Sims.

Over-Emotional – this trait gives the Sim a +25% boost on all moodlets.

Party Animal – this trait gives the Sim a love for partying and Sims that throw parties with this trait always have all those invited come, even if they miss work.

Perfectionist – this trait allows Sims to take their time (sometimes too much time) to do things right. Their painting, food quality and novels will be better than normal and often create masterpieces.

Schmoozer – this trait gives the Sim a better ability for making better co-worker relations and are better at asking for something and complimenting others.

Slob – this trait makes your Sim a slob. They don’t mind being dirty or in dirty surroundings and often leave things dirty after use.

Snob – this trait gives the Sim a love for high priced items, receiving compliments and enjoy more expensive bottles of nectar.

Technophobe – this trait gives the Sim a hatred of electronics. Sometimes they even break them just for fun!

Unflirty – this trait gives the Sim the inability to flirt and generally dislike flirting.

Unlucky – this trait makes your Sim unlucky and bad things will happen to them often. They however cannot be taken by the Reaper, so they can only die of old age.

Vegetarian – this trait gives the Sim meat replacements when cooking recipes with meat and adds a boost to longevity.

Virtuoso – this trait gives the Sim a boost to learning the guitar skill and allows them to earn my money playing for tips.

Workaholic – this trait gives the Sim a much better chance of getting promotions and even get a positive mood boost for being at work. They can also work at home from the computer.

World Adventures Traits

Sims 3 World Adventures traits include: photographer’s eye, disciplined and adventurous.

Sims 3 Treasure

Photographer’s Eye – this trait gives the Sim a natural ability to learn photography. They learn it quicker and their photographs tend to be worth more than other Sims. These Sims are also able to discuss Photography with other Sims.

Disciplined – this trait gives the Sim the discipline to be the best Martial Artist around. They learn the Martial Arts skill quicker than other Sims, have a better chance in sparring against others and do not like playing computer or video games.

Adventurous – this trait gives the Sim a larger joy of traveling. They are able to go on adventures more often and rise their Visa levels quicker than other Sims.

Ambitions Traits

Sims 3 Ambitions traits include: eccentric, perceptive, savvy sculptor, born salesperson, dramatic and eco-friendly.

Eccentric – this trait gives the Sim a natural ability for inventing crazy gizmos. They are able to learn the inventing skill faster, discover new inventions faster and have a higher chance at making Improved Widgets.

Perceptive – this trait gives the Sim a better ability to be a Private Investigator. They learn the logic trait quicker and earn more money from Investigator assignments.

Savvy Sculptor – this trait gives the Sim a natural ability for sculpting. They learn the Sculpting Skill faster and are able to create unique sculptures other Sims can’t.

Sims 3 Gardening

Born Salesperson – this trait gives the Sim the ability to sell their items for more than other Sims at the Consignment store.

Dramatic – this trait gives the Sim the ability to slap Sims that insult them, burst into tears of joy or sorrow often, and generally be more emotional than other Sims and can even fake passing out.

Eco-Friendly – this trait gives the Sim an environmentally friendly outlook on life. These Sims prefer to ride a bike instead of a car, eat organic food and take fast showers in order to conserve water. They also love gardening.

Hidden Traits

Sims 3 hidden traits do not appear in the Create-A-Sim and they also do not take up a spot in the five traits either. Sims are able to get these hidden traits by seducing a NPC Sim and then they are able to give these traits to their offspring.

Hidden Traits Available:

Sims 3 Hidden traits include: burglar, can apprehend burglar, can salute, immune to fire, makes no messes, pizza appreciator, pyromaniac, rocker, Asian culture, Egyptian culture and French culture.

Burglar – obtained from NPC Parent Sim that was a burglar and Sims in the Criminal career. Sims with this trait can “sneak” around instead of walking or running.

Can Apprehend Burglar – obtained from NPC Parent Sim that was a police officer and Sims in the Law Enforcement career. Sims with this trait can when grown up apprehend burglars that break into their home.

Can Salute – obtained from Parent Sim that was in the Military career. Sims with this trait are able to “Salute” others.

Immune to Fire – in The Sims 3: Ambitions, Sims that reach the top of the Firefighter profession (and their children) will sometimes receive this trait making them immune to fire.

Makes No Messes – obtained from NPC Parent Sim that was a maid. Sims with this trait are very clean and never leave messes.

Pizza Appreciator – obtained from NPC Parent Sim that was a pizza deliverer. Sims with this trait love pizza and eating pizza gives them the “Amazing Meal” moodlet.

Pyromaniac – obtained from NPC Parent Sim that was a firefighter or a Sim Parent that was level 8+ in the Firefighter profession. Sims with this trait are able to start fires and get a positive moodlet for starting them. They can also transform an apple to a flame fruit.

Rocker – obtained from Parent Sim that was a Rocker in the Music Career. Sims with this trait have a natural feeling of being a Rocker and sometimes play air guitar.

Asian Culture – all Sims in Shang Simla from The Sims 3: World Adventures have this trait. They eat with chopsticks and never get fatigued when practicing Martial Arts.

Egyptian Culture – all Sims in Al Simhara from The Sims 3: World Adventures have this trait. They are able to sing all of their Middle Eastern songs.

French Culture – this Sims 3 trait gives all Sims in Champs Les Sims from The Sims 3: World Adventures have this trait. They sing all of the French songs and greet other Sims with the dual-cheek kiss.
