Marriage has been available for Sims in love since the first The Sims game. In The Sims 3, Sims are able to marry those that they have a high enough romantic relationship with, even if they are of the same sex, a ghost, or a Sims 3 vampire!

Sims are only able to get married from the Young Adult stage and on. The Sim that does the proposing is the last name that the couple will have once married. This can be changed after the wedding by going to the City Hall and getting a name change. Also, if the Sim has other children, they will also receive the name of the new parent.

How Do You Get Married in The Sims 3?

Like with proposals in real life, you need to have a very good intimate relationship with the Sim you want to propose to. Your Sim could be dating the other Sim for a while, or even be living with the other Sim and still propose to the Sim to get married. They first must be in a relationship as boyfriend/girlfriend, so they must “Propose Going Steady” before proposing.

So, how do you get married in The Sims 3? Ask the Sim to marry your Sim by proposing to them (preferably in a romantic location like while visiting France in The Sims 3: World Adventures, or at a special location around town, such as where the Sims fell in love). If the other Sim says yes, your Sims will then show up as being engaged, but not yet married.

To be officially married, they have to have the ceremony.

The Sims 3 Wedding Party or Private Wedding Ceremony?

Some Sims are private and don’t want to have a huge party, so holding a private ceremony would work best for them. When this happens the wedding music will start wherever you are, and the two Sims will get married. So, make sure they are ready and in the exact spot you want them to marry before this happens.
